Helping Hand Home for Children is looking for a creative, enthusiastic teacher for our summer school program.
The population this position will be working with is elementary-aged children with high behavioral and academic needs. Most have experienced education disruptions and are working hard to catch up to grade level, so the summer program is key to helping them maintain and build on the skills they gained during the school year. Teachers will be developing a curriculum that focuses on basic math and reading skills through hands-on lessons. We’re looking for teachers who want to create active, participatory lessons to keep kids with short attention spans engaged. Since it is their summer, we also want it to be as fun for the kids as possible.
The position is 20 hours per week: 10 hours teaching, 10 hours lesson planning. Teachers will also have a supplies budget. The program runs from June 12 to August 4, and it’s important that candidates can commit for the whole period. The class size will be 10 or fewer, with two classroom support staff.
Compensation: $18 per hour.
